| Description | S.I.I.C. Sugar & Integrated Industries Co. was declared winner of L.E. 753 million contract, as main contractor, to implement Noubariya beat sugar mill. Project foreign currency component reaches the equivalent of L.E. 424 million. The project, scheduled for completion in 24 months time, will have an annual design capacity to produce 125,000 tons of white sugar for the domestic market & to refine further 125,000 tons of raw sugar for export. Annual output of by-products includes 55,000 tons molasses & 54,000 tons of beat fodder. Chairman of S.I.I.C., Eng. Hassan Kamel, said Egypt annual sugar consumption at present reaches 2.2 million tons, with local production of both cane & beat sugar put at 1.5 million tons only. Gap is being covered by the import of about 700,000 tons raw sugar, refined locally. Project generates about 600 direct & 2,000 indirect employment opportunities. |
