A so-called “East African Group to Boost Electric Energy” was formed under participation of nine countries led by Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. It further involved Burundi, Congo Democratic, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. A Council of Ministers of the group is formed by the Ministers of Electricity & Energy in all 9 participating countries. [Development is of a strategic type considering the participants’ potential resources of hydroelectric power generation and transmission to third parties via Egypt].
