In an attempt to boost local manufacture component in traction projects, agreement was lately signed between two entities of the A.O.I. – Arab Organization for Industrialization & Mitsubishi Corp, of Japan. Involved are Qader factory for Advanced Industries & SEMAF – Railway Equipment Manufacturing Factory. Agreement provides for the cooperation between both parties in the manufacturing of electric metro trains for the different Cairo Metro lines, for the Cairo Heliopolis Metro Line, also of electric driven tramway cars for Alexandria & for another project to link Greater Cairo with New Cities. N.B. Week earlier NAT – National Authority for Tunnels launched the start of works on phase 1 of Cairo Metro third line covering the section Ataba/ El Darrassa. Since it has bought it out, A.O.I. is putting ambitious plans to restructure, revamp & upgrade SEMAF operations. A.O.I. is most probably eyeing also a forthcoming boom of multibillion traction projects planned in Saudi Arabia, Libya, and the UAE & Morocco among others. |
