An executive of the national carton industry has proposed an interesting scenario for the proper exploitation of rice straw resources (2.5 to 3 million-tons/ year). It is based on the transfer of technology to convert rice straw into pulp (available in China & India). That is to be integrated with a scheme to implement 5 – 10 (or more) pilot factories, spread at major rice producing Governorates, to convert rice straw into pulp & sell it to the carton industry. Initial success would encourage more investors of the industry to establish more such factories near plantation areas to recycle & recover more pulp for the carton industry at an economic cost. |
