According to Egypt Minister of Electricity & Energy, Dr. Eng. Hassan Younis, the World Bank will raise $ 260 million soft loan to back the 750 MW extension of Al Tebbin steam fired power station as part of the country energy plan 2007/ 2012. Most probably is that the loan would finance the project foreign currency component since a tender for the civil construction works was already released indicating that the job is financed by CEBC – Cairo Electricity Production Co. – own resources. Worth indicating is that the 2007/ 2012 plan targets to add 8,475 MW new generation capacities to the country unified power grid, deemed necessary to cope with a fast growing demand on electricity. |
